Semi-responsive keyboard and unresponsive track pad

So I was reflowing heat to my gpu and have done this plenty of times. When I reassembled my laptop again, I fixed the gpu, but now my keyboard doesn't always work and the track pad never works. When I press keys, I typically need to press them a few times before it actually registers. I literally just installed a new keyboard that I bought from this site a month ago. It was working just fine until I reassembled my computer. I don't think I caused any damage during the reassembly and have opened it and cleaned it five times (made sure no thermal paste was around edges of chips with isopropyl alcohol and used compressed air) and made sure the keyboard cable is secure over and over again each time. I've reset SMC and PRAM to no avail.

I'm not sure what the next step it from here.

EDIT: so I went into keyboard under accessibility and found this weird message blinking. I've noticed that while the message is on, I'm able to type and my keyboard works. When it's off, the keyboard is unresponsive. It says “use F1, F2 etc. Keys as standard function keys” in case the video below doesn't work. Why is it blinking?

These are my setting in keyboard/accessibility

I think you over cooked your board ;-{

I would search out for a 2012 logic board. Its a direct drop in! The only issue you’ll have is the LVDS cable connector needs a light modification. You’ll need to take a nail file and carefully grid down the edge ever so slightly as the width of the tang is larger on the older cable. It only takes a few even strokes to fix.

The system I’m banging away on right now is a early 2011 which the GPU died and upgraded the logic board to a 2012! Its been running strong since then.

Thank you for replying.

I have a 4TB SSD. I won't be able to use that with a 2012 logic board, will I? I also use USB C for everything and know that it doesn't have USB C. Why not just purchase a 2011 logic board under these conditions?

Also, I looked in the ifixit store and they have the 2.2ghz late 2011 15" logic board for $400 while the 2012 15" 2.3ghz is $300 which seems to only have one fan as opposed to the two I'm used to with my current board. Why is a 2012 logic board with +.1 ghz $100 cheaper than a 2011 logic board with -.1ghz?

I’ve also noticed that the computer works just fine if I hook up an external mouse and keyboard. Some applications are a bit slow on loading up but still work. Should I be concerned about any limitations using it under this condition? Sorry for the barrage of questions

@starsmash - First off we are talking about the older Unibody MacBook Pro not the newer Retina series correct?

If that's the case you are listing parts here which won't work in your system! Your only option is the 2012 unibody logic boards MacBook Pro (15 Zoll, Mitte 2012, Unibody) Logic Board austauschen

Apple P/N's

● 661-6491 - MacBook Pro 15" Unibody (Mid 2012) 2.3 GHz Logic Board

● 661-6492 - MacBook Pro 15" Unibody (Mid 2012) 2.6 GHz Logic Board

● 661-6493 - MacBook Pro 15" Unibody (Mid 2012) 2.7 GHz Logic Board

Do a google search under these part numbers.

@danj thank you for the follow up, but no; this is the correct part for my current model and is the same exact one i have:

MacBook Pro 15" Unibody (Late 2011) 2.2 GHz Logic Board

@starsmash - I'd go on the hunt for one of the 2012 boards as the GPU is much better than what the 2011 had. Even still I would be careful not to over stress the GPU running very heavy graphics.

Hi, I'm having the same issue immediately after replacing the keyboard in my MacBook. This is the only question I could find with this specific keyboard issue, right down to the message blinking on and off in the Keyboard Accessibility menu.

In my case, I accidentally severed the track pad wire as well; I know this would have to be replaced (I'm using a USB mouse), but if I need to replace the logic board first, I think that's a bridge too far for a laptop that's already on borrowed time. I'm just wondering if there's any other fixes people can recommend first. Thank you.

I had this same issue because I damaged the trackpad flex cable and replacing it worked for me - Damaged my trackpad cable
