iPad 6 knocked 2 small components off during Tristar repair

Hi all,

I recently got an iPad 6th Gen for cheap as it didn’t turn on at all. I’ve been learning Microsoldering so wanted to take on the task! Straight away stuck a new battery in it, found that it did turn on however wouldn’t charge. I took multimeter readings from the charge port and i’m confident that the charge port isn’t the issue. Next point of call was to replace the Tristar chip, which i’ve now removed from the board. In doing so, I dislodged 2 small components next to tristar. Does anyone have any more info on what they are? Any components names/number would be ideal! There’s a lack of board schematics for this device so i’m a little in the dark. Yet to recieve the new chip, but want to nail down what i’ve knocked off first so i can sort that out.

Any info would be brilliant. Is this a component i could potentially pull from another board or not? Or even leave out all together?

You can check the iPad Air schematic/boardview to see if the components are configured the same way. If they are not, the we can clearly see on your picture that there are traces going from the empty pads to the Tristar pads so it should be easy to figure out as Tristar IC’s are pretty much compatible across most devices.

Just a quick suggestion when micro-soldering. If you have a camera on your microscope (or use an iPhone directly on the eyepiece), take pictures of the general area before removing IC’s or other components, especially when dealing with logic boards that don’t have full boardviews/schematics. That way, if something gets dislodged by accident, or you can’t remember the proper orientation, you can refer back to your picture.

@stewartps here it is 1 1/2 years later and I am late to this get together. This answer is only for completion sake and it is most likely that the information was just not available at the time the question was asked. Consider it a supplement to the original answer. I only answer it to assist those that may run into the same issues etc. Anyhow looks like the following:

Reference designator C1700 which is a 0.1 UF 20% 6.3V capacitor in a 01005 package

Reference designator C1720 which is a 8.2 PF +/-0.5PF 16V capacitor in a 01005 package

Reference designator R8370 which is a 10K 5% 1/32W resistor in a 01005 package

Reference designator R8399 which is a 0 Ohm 1/32W resistor in a 01005 package
