KDL-46HX800 blinking 4 times wont turn on

Hi all,

I hope you can help me. I am a newbie in the TV repair area, I have a SONY Bravia KDL-46HX800 which it is in standby and when I want to turn on, the lights turns green and after 2 seconds it turns red and blinks 4 times.

I have been googling it and I could dissassemble and make sure it has 3.3v in the stand by pin. I would like to identify which board (Power Supply, main board or led driver) is the defective one so I can order a replacement.

These are some photos of the power board:

Thank you very much.

I found the TV service manual and there is a diagram with possible causes when the TV red light blinks 4 times. https://ibb.co/9Nmm7hP

But not sure what to check.

Hi Hernan , I have exactly the same issue as you had with your TV. Did you manage to find out what the fault was?

Hernan Fernandez you want to consider a factory reset first since this will rule out a settings issue:

  1. Turn TV off from the wall and leave off for 2 minutes
  2. Turn TV back on again
  3. On the TV's remote control press the UP arrow (and point at the TV's remote sensor) as well as pressing the power button on the TV itself (then release power button and then UP arrow)
  4. The TV will now reset back to factory default
  5. You will then have to go through the Auto Setup

The 4 blink code refers to a Balancer Error which is really pretty generic. Common issues causing this error are a bad B-Board, G-Board, LED Driver (LD)boards, LED backlight strips as well as bad LVDS cables. Check the troubleshooting flowchart to see if you can determine by the voltage on JL2565 which part has failed. My prime suspect is the power board.

Balancer Errors

When a balancer error occurs, we at least have the ability to observe the lighting of the lamps before the unit shuts down. The unit must a have a correctly functioning inverter to start the lamps and allow the balancer detect circuit to function. In some cases, the lamps may light long enough to see active video or snow for a couple of seconds. Observing the backlighting of the panel at this time is a great tool in determining what is causing the shutdown.

NOTE: Unlike an inverter error where the unit will make 3 attempts to start the inverter, a balancer error will cause the unit to cycle 2 times before the protect shutdown occurs.

Remember, the purpose of the balancer detect circuit is to monitor a lamp that will not startup. Unless a particular model has a history of a related component causing balancer error shutdowns to occur, it will usually be a defective lamp and that will require replacement of the entire LCD panel (not true ;-). A lamp that is not lighting is difficult to spot due to the efficiency of the diffuser panel to spread the light.

Hi @oldturkey03, really appreciate your help. I could not find the JL2565 but I google it and looks like is CN2561 at PIN 3 as per: https://ibb.co/NSgkpFQ

I have checked the pins of CN2561 while the tv is on standby and I could find 3.3v only on pin 1, As you can see in this image: https://ibb.co/mbwvX4T pin 3 does not have any cables and the voltage is 0v.

I just need to identify which board should I change, according to the diagram it does not talk about power supply but it could be a possible cause.

Any idea how can i identify which board to change ?

Thanks a lot again

Going by your symptoms alone I would change the B-board (Main board)

Thank you for your time @oldturkey03 ,

I have been reading this forum (https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread...) and I found a guy that have very similar issue as mine, he replaced the B-Board and the inverter and finally was due to the 4 ribbon cables that connects the inverter were not flat against the board, he does not know why but all he had to do was press and down with a piece of tape.

@Hernan Fernandez give it a try and let us know if it works

Hi @oldturkey03 , unfortunately I have tried pressing the 4 ribbon cables with a tape to have them flat agains the board and it did not work.

Couple for thinks I found, I have disconected the inverter board (the ones that have 4 small ribbon cables from the power board and still I get the 4 blinks.

I have checked the voltages of the power board and I can get 3.3v in the standby and 12v in some pins (I did not check all pins).

Is there a way to islolate the failure to see which board should I replace ?

Do you think it is the main board ?

I bought the TV not working so I do not really know if this has a huge damage or not.

I would like to discard the LCD panels or screen issues.

Thanks for your help
