Why is my phone saying my password is wrong when I know it is correct?

My phone has a simple 4 digit password, in fact i was able to open it just a few minutes before i accidentally closed it again. Then it asked for a password and of course i typed the same 4 digits but for some reason it says it is incorrect and i dont want to do a factory reset and loose all my data pleas help me thanks.
