How can I safely dispose of iPhone batteries? (no recycling centers)

Hello, dearest of friends! I’ve found myself in a pickle! Its been 2 years of iPhone repairs and now I have an enormous pile of batteries in different states (punctured and swollen batteries are safely stored) and can’t seem to be able to get rid of them.

Unfortunately, there are no recycling centers willing to take them from me and after asking other people in the industry it seems that they have the same issue, no one wants to take our batteries!

What is the safest way for me to get rid of them, for our environment and waste disposal teams health? I don’t want to put anyone at risk, but it does look like there is no other option, literally no one is willing even though I’ve offered to pay for the service.

Any Ideas?

Try home depot. They take batteries for recycling and have a place to put them in by the door.

I should have specified, I’m from Chile in South America, no home depots here.

Ok. The only thing I can tell you is put them in the trash. It's legal in the us but if you can't recycle them it sounds like you don't have a choice.

I searched for “Where to recycle batteries in Chile“ and found a few places where it seems like you should be able to recycle batteries.

I don’t know how far from you these places are, but I would give it a try to search for something similar in your language and mentioned the place you live or the closest bigger city.

A recycling centre should take phone batteries to, at least bigger recycling centres.

If they don’t, I would contact their support and talk to them about that it is important to be able to recycle such batteries too. If they don’t listen you can ask others with the same issue to contact the recycling centre as well and hopefully, you can make them change their minds when they see it’s something that’s needed.

If that doesn’t work and you have a safe place to store the batteries, I would hold on to them for a while and hope that there will be a place to recycle them in a not too far future.
