I have a 20” EMC 2118 iMac that will be parted and/or recycled. I was wondering, since modern day iMacs and Macbooks do not have optical drives, if there is a kit I could purchase to convert the EMC 2118 optical drive to an external optical drive should I need one. Thank you in advance for your help.

Sadly, you have a few issues that don’t make this very practical.
This older optical drive has a PATA interface you’ll need an adaptor to convert to SATA or in a case which offers a PATA (or SATA) to USB support logic, these older cases are hard to come-by.
The next issue is the needed drivers have long since been dropped in the newer OS releases.
