Why is my PS3 keep freezing when I start it up?

So I was downloading a lot of stuff on my PS3 but then when I powered it on, it froze when it was about to enter the Playstation 3 Dashboard and I don’t understand why and how’s it cause it. Can someone please help me how to solve this problem without having to lose my saved games and data?
