how many shims are there on the motor armature at the bottom end near the control board?
I have removed the armature from the housing and I am not sure how many shims there were.

According to the parts list in the service manual (see p.25-26) there is a small packing washer - part #184, one large shim washer - part #183 and a nylon armature washer - part #186.
Hopefully this is of some help.

If you look at the service manual quantities, there should be _two_ of the small packing washers (part #184). There may also be another between the other side of the bearing and the fan, if required, to take up any vertical play.
