What is wrong with my 60" Samsung TV? Possible power issue?

The TV:

Samsung UN60JS7000JXZA

My parents’ TV randomly stopped working perfectly one day. The sound continued to play, but no picture was visible. I offered to try and fix the TV, and that’s been one heck of a trip.

I started by trying to replicate their issue with the sound (which I witnessed), but the TV no longer turns on at all. Exactly one time, I got the standby light to come on, but once I hit the power button, it flashed five times and would no longer turn back on. Now, the standby light doesn’t come on even a little bit.

Things I’ve tried:

  • Simply resetting. I unplugged everything and held the power button down. No dice.
  • Disconnecting the main board and power supply board. When I plug in the TV, the backlights do turn on, so I assumed the problem was with a board.
  • Testing voltages of the PS_ON/OFF and various other pins on the power supply board. For the most part, these were 13V, which seems to be what the board says it should be. (I am not super knowledgeable on what pins to test, so any tips here would be great if I missed something).
  • Replacing the main board. Since I felt some heat on the main board, the backlights turned on when disconnected, the standby light was malfunctioning, and the power button wasn’t working, I thought I correctly assumed the problem was with the main board. But the replacement board did not fix any of those problems.
  • Replacing the power supply board. Since the main board replacement failed, I thought that perhaps there was something wrong with the power supply. This did not help either.

(I can also upload old main board and power supply board pictures if needed, but apparently neither are the problem.)

I’ve spent more on this than I wanted to, but I know I should’ve asked more questions up front. Can anyone point me in the right direction at this point? What on earth is going on?

Have you ever tried to press the menu button and check if the menu is displayed? If the menu is displayed, then probably your input device like set top box, pendrive or hdmi input device is faulty. Your input cable can also be faulty. You need to either buy a new input cable or call your set top box company.

Otherwise if the menu is not displayed, then there can be following problems:

  1. Problem with backlight: Every TV has a backlight that illuminates the screen of the TV to facilitate the picture display. If you have an LCD TV, your CFL lights might be defective. If you have an LED TV, your LED lights may be defective.
  2. Problem with Screen: If your backlight if fine, then most probably your screen is faulty. Different components that can be faulty in your screen are: T-con, Cof-IC or Scalar PCB. You will need an expert TV repair technician to look into it.

Wouldn't this depend on me being able to power on the TV? As it stands, the standby light is never lit and the screen is never on. I mentioned in the question that the backlights do turn on when I disconnect the power supply board from the main board, so I doubt it's the backlight. And since the TV isn't turning on at all, I'm not sure how I would diagnose the screen.

@alexp5751 You may need an expert technician to look into it, but you to decide if it's worth a replacement or repair.
