iPhone 7, 7+, 8 and 8+ Home Button

Myself and other technicians are having issues where on the above models, when we move the home button from the broken screen to another one, it temporarily stops working but the fingerprint reader works fine, it just doesn’t work as a button. We have to reset to factory settings and set it back up or turn it off and on around 5-10 times for the button function to start working again. Any ideas?

So just to sum up, the buttons aren’t broken the button function doesn’t work until the phone’s been reset a couple of times but touch ID still works as normal.

How often does this occur? Meaning does it happen every time you repair those models or does it happen randomly? I’m thinking you might have a batch of defective parts or it could be that you’re being to rough when removing the buttons. Where are you ordering parts from?

I can’t be quite sure where the parts are coming from as the accounts team order them in bulk. It’s mainly happening on the 8 and 8 plus but occasionally will happen in the 7 series. Hard resets don’t solve the problem but if we reset the devices a couple of times, the button function comes back to life.... it’s very odd

@coopzzz360 like I mentioned above, it could be a batch of defective parts. I used to work for one of the big chains in cellphone repair and we constantly had issues with our parts supplier, despite them being more expensive that the really good suppliers. I would suggest trying screens from a different supplier if possible.
