iMac 5K 2017 power on weird issue

Hi guys,

Currently, I got an annoying issue with my iMac (27-inch, 5K Retina 2017). It's working fine on all aspects, except when I want to power it on.

When I turn it off or power outage, there is no way to turn it on immediately by pressing the power button, no matter how many times I press it. You may think the power button is damaged, but no, it's work fine.

In this timeframe, I tried to press the power button many times, unplug the power cord, wait for a couple of minutes and then plug it in again. Then press the button several more times, but no luck.

Fortunately, it always turns on for about an hour, or more ( I didn't count) by itself. I have no idea how it can turn it on. The only setting I use is "power on after failure". I also thought that the power button is damaged and need to be replaced. However, when it turns on (by itself), I tried to press the button and it's working. The button only doesn't work when I want to power it on.

Anyone get this issue before? Is there any solution for me to fix it at home?

Do you have a surge suppressor or a UPS? If not I would recommend getting one. If you get a fair amount of power issues I would go with the UPS.

It sounds like you have either a mis-wired or bad ground in your outlets wiring. I would start there using a simple Go-No Go outlet tester like this one: Klein Tools RT110 Receptacle Tester for North American AC Electrical Outlet Receptacles If your country uses a different standard locate the correct one for your AC power service.

If you don’t find an issue then your power supply or logic board has sustained damage from the power surge when the power was restored.
