Why is my dryer overheating?

Hello. I have a Kenmore dryer 592-895090. I just changed the heating element for the second time. When I installed it, it ran for about 3 seconds and stopped with a blown breaker. I removed it and re-installed it. It now heats, except it overheats. I get a hE warning. I did a check of the exhaust (fine), an connectivity check on the three instruments on the heating element (thermostats, etc. all fine), and the two other thermostats that are next to the heating element (both fine). I am now wondering if its a problem with control board after whatever caused the breaker to jump. How can I check if its that, or any other thing worth checking. Thanks. Nick

Update (05/13/2021)

Bill, this is helpful. I did check the exhaust and its clear. I just ran it on air tumble (no heat) and it did heat up. What is the “limit thermo cutout” you are referring to? I was also told that it could be a relay board (there are more than 1 boards? and of course its discontinued).

Thank you.

The control board would not have cause the breaker to trip. It must have been a short of the heating element to the frame. If the heating element somehow shorted out in you first go around, you may have damaged it. Start by trying to run it with the exhaust disconnected. Most overheating is caused by a plugged exhaust. I cleaned mine out last month using the exhaust on my shop vac after removing the louvers. Otherwise, It could be a limit thermo cutout or the element itself.
