iPhone 11 carrier unlocked but only accepts one network

I picked up a used iPhone 11, seller told me it’s network locked so I figured that can be fixed by getting in touch with the carrier. Long story short, in about (settings) it shows that there is no sim restrictions. Called the carrier and they told me that they don’t lock iPhones.

when I try to insert any other sim, the network registers but throws me a “No Service” error. Sometime it shows one bar for a brief moment and then reverts back to no service.

its not a sim or hardware issue as the sims work in my XS and the 11 works perfectly on the one network. IMEI has not been blacklisted.

NB. Screen was replaced but it shouldn’t affect anything

can anyone tell me what it is? Anyone experiencing the same issue

Ist dies eine gute Frage?

what carrier are you trying to use it on? I know some carriers require you to notify them that you're trying to change the SIM card from one device to another.

carriers here don’t require notification when switching sims as it works perfectly fine on my XS

There must be some network-related issues that might be so.

Once follow the procedure that

Go to setting/Mobile/Mobile data options/voice & data/

Choose 2g/3g/LTE and check once.

Hey pal, thanks for the response. I’ve done all the troubleshooting already, including a DFU and even loading iOS 15 on it.

In the about section under network it says “phone not allowed” on other networks. It’s not blacklisted. It is however a contract phone so my educated guess would be that the working network has an agreement with other networks that basically bans the phone from their services.

Maybe it’s a bypass to actually sim locking the device because sim locks have died out about 8 years ago in SA

Did you ever manage to fix the issue?

I have exactly the same issue. My phone worked perfectly fine with MTN (my network I’ve always used), and then one day it just stopped picking up signal.

Have tried to put in a Vodacom sim and it doesn’t work, but then when I used a Cell C sim it works… it’s so odd and for the life of me I have no idea what the problem is and how it started
