logic board for internal ssd not being recognized

So my mac does´t recognize any internal ssd, old or new, but works fine with external drive… would changing the logic board be a solution?

Done all the probable tests that can be done and it still won´t show the internal HD

Thanks in advance

What are the SSD's you've used Make and model

@danj The original that comes with the mac and a crucial p1 nvme 500gb with adapter

@rfo223 - Need to know a bit more on the Apple drive is it a Toshiba or Samsung?

Using a M.2 SSD requires an adapter and they often fail. Apple added a bit of special sauce within their custom connector that messes up M.2 SSD's once you stress them. I personally don't recommend them.

Less focus on getting your Original Apple SSD going.

@danj Thanks a lot Dan, it is a Samsung

@rfo223 - Well you've got the better drive, which is good. While the drive maybe small for your needs (256GB) it should still work. So then the issue is the formatting of the drive. Putting this drive in you should be able to leverage your external drive to reformat it.

But there is a small wrinkle here! The macOS version you are using needs to be Mojave or newer (I would stick with it) Make sure you are using the proper version as using the older Sierra release or older other wise you’ll hit the HFS+ vs APFS issue.

Thank you very much for you´re time Dan, already did this, I am working on Catalina... but still no internal drive shows up anywhere, that is why I think that there is some problem on a connection somewhere, already cleaned the whole inside -nothing seems burned or anything- that is why I was wondering what the problem might be, the reason for purchasing the new drive was because I tought it didn´t work, but apparently it works just fine, that is what drove me to think of the board

@rfo223 - Its possible you pulled on the connector messing it up. You might find someone with good micro soldering skills and access to a new connector to replace it otherwise its a new logic board ;-{

If you are still looking at getting a bigger drive I would go with either a real Apple Drive or either OWC or Transcend both offer fully compatible SSD's.
