Replaced my screen but now I just get a black screen
I purchased a screen replacement from ifixit and replaced the screen tonight. I had no issues yet once I was done, I tried to power on the laptop, heard the start-up sound but no image appeared. Powered down, took the back off again, re-inspected everything and every thing appears to be in order. I can see nothing that would lead me to believe there is any issue but I’m certainly no expert. Any ideas what I could do to troubleshoot to determine the cause of the issue? (Before I simply return the $400 replacement).

Shine a flashlight though the lids logo, do you see a faint image of your desktop and its icons? If you do your backlight logic needs repairs.
But let’s backup here, why did you replace the part in the first place?

I inadvertently left a small ink pen on the keyboard and closed the computer. When I opened it later the screen was broken
