the detergent dispenser in my dishwasher will not close the little lock does not stay in the hole?

Sounds like you will have to remove the front cover to observe the dispenser mechanism to see why it is stuck open.
It may be a buildup of detergent or other muck.
It may be a broken/worn plastic part.
It may be a bad release solenoid.
It may be a bad control module.
