Cartridge detected but not read

I've had this happen on 2 different Nintendo Switch lites. On the first one, the cartridge slot stopped reading cartridges, so I ordered the part here and replaced the cartridge slot. Unfortunately that didn't resolve the issue. So I chalked it up to something wrong on the motherboard and retired that Switch to downloaded games only.

The on my other sons switch lite I needed to replace the right thumb stick. So I ordered that part and replaced the stick. As part of the teardown to get to the right thumbstick you need to disconnect and remove the cartridge slot (among other things). Everything seemed to go fine except that when I was putting everything back together the little ZIF locking tab for the cartridge slot ribbon connector came off the motherboard. But there was a fair amount of natural tension "pushing" the ribbon cable into the connector so I figured I was good to go. Couldn't fix the connector anyways. Put it all back together and as you may have guessed, it can't read game cartridges.

Both detect that a cartridge has been inserted, but error out when trying to read it.

Do you think it's just a fluke on the first one and the connector tab on the second one, or is there some kind of recalibration or something I need to do after removing and re-adding the cartridge slot? I know I'm reaching here but is seems like more than just a coincidence that I have issues with the slots on 2 different Switches.

Maybe I just have bad luck. Any thoughts?
