I forgot to turn off my phone before starting my screen repair.

So my phone is still on after screen replacement us done. I followed all steps correctly, but missed that it needs to be off before starting (which btw why was that at the bottom of the page instead of at the top???). Should I wait for it to die and charge it back up to do calibration?

Ist dies eine gute Frage?

Are you referring to the fingerprint sensor calibration?

Hi, do you have any update? Did the screen work when you replaced it while the phone is powered on? Thanks.

Hi Brad,

After reading the screen replacement guide, it appears the phone will want to self-calibrate the touch screen following the screen replacement. Since the guide doesn't specify to disconnect the battery, I'm going to assume the calibration is done during the phone's boot process when it detects a new screen; I doubt it does it every time you power on since the instructions say not to touch the screen during calibration.

So at this point I'm fairly sure that all you need to do is turn off the phone then turn it back on. If it's going to do a calibration, it should start that process as it's booting; if it doesn't I wouldn't worry about it unless you have issues with the touch screen.

But yeah, you're absolutely correct that the guide should, as the very first step, tell you to turn the phone off. Some of us who have done a lot of phone repairs just do it automatically, so I can see how that step might have been missed when the guide was being written.

Edit: I've gone to the guide and added a reminder to remove the plastic cover on the front camera peephole, along with changing the very first step to tell you to turn off the phone. These changes will have to be approved by iFixit staff, but I don't see any reason for them to be denied. Hopefully that will keep others from running into the same issue you did.

Try a soft reset. Press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds.
