Panel Discoloration from Goof Off

I'm currently working on a battery replacement and had to resort to using Goof Off vs. the Adhesive Remover that came with the new battery (I'm not that strong and needed something heavy-duty.)

After removing the old battery, I started working on the leftover adhesive and I got Goof Off on a part of the panel I wasn't intending. Now it's discolored. Should I be concerned?

@theshadow7x Could you point out the part(s) that concerns you? I can’t really see anything in the picture you attached, that I would be concerned about.

@geirandersen Attaching a cropped and highlighted picture.

@Sean Foden Thanks!

@theshadow7x Just an FYI; That post above is just covert spam. Have been seeing that a lot lately :(

@theshadow7x Sorry for the late reply; Timezones and all that..

The marks you’ve circled appears to be hard scratch marks, made by a hard tool in scraping? I wouldn’t worry about it personally, if it was on my own device, but I would repair on a customer’s device.

@geirandersen No worries! I appreciate the assistance! It was done by the adhesive remover I used. If it were you, how would you go about repairing that?

von

@theshadow7x Well, you could try and replace the "sticker" / film, if you can find a source for the part. I can't remember where I saw it last, but I have seen it online.

von

Thanks for the info! I'm replacing the battery for a friend and I showed him what happened. He said it wasn't worried about it.

Thanks again for your help!

von

@theshadow7x That my friend, is EXACTLY how you do it! If you make a small unimportant mistake like this, and there's really no reason to repair it; Owning up to it and showing it to the owner for him/her to decide, is 110% the correct way to handle it.

We can all make mistakes, that's just how life is. A good person owns up to it and discloses or repairs, whilst a dishonest person would cover it up and try to "get away with it".
