PowerBook g4 not recognizing SSD

I have a PowerBook g4 I been having trouble with the laptop. The hard drive is still in the computer and it reads it just fine but when I replace the hard drive with the SSD it doesn’t read it. But when I plug in the SSD externally it reads but does not boot from it. I was wondering if I can have some help with this problem I really want to make this laptop run like new again like it did back then.

Jordan Chapman sounds to me like your G4 does not recognize the SSD as a boot drive. I would reformat the drive, then install the OS . The PowerBook G4 is the last laptop Apple made with the PowerPC CPU so your OS choices are very limited.

You need to install the OS properly. I’m suspecting you did a copy and not a proper install.

What format do I need format the SSD?

@Jordan Chapman - You need the original Grey CD’s that came with the system or get the retail version of OS-X Leopard (10.5.8) being the highest this system supports.

Using it to boot your system you should be able to reformat the drive and then install a fresh OS using the OS installer app.

Do you need the dvd copy or can you use a iso to do it?

von

@Jordan Chapman - You need the Bootable version of the CD.

You’re stuck in a bit of a catch22 problem!

You need the original drive in your system so it can run and then using an external SCSI case to house your new SSD then you can format and install the OS from the ISO image from your HDD.
