Caps Lock button blinking 5 times and black screen

The caps lock buttons blinks 5 times and does not boot. While the caps lock button is blinking the fans are very load and the screen stays black.

Note: the laptop does boot sometimes, if I don't try to power it on for maybe an hour it will boot. When it boots after maybe two minutes I get a blue screen: DPC WATCHDOG VIOLATION. I also can get into BIOS.

I await your responses, I will clarify whatever questions you may have, friends.

I can post videos/pictures at your demand or clarify anything about the hardware.

@incredibleram look a bit more into the DPC WATCHDOG VIOLATION. The most common cause is having device drivers with the graphics card and SSD that are outdated or installed incorrectly. Double check all of that in your BIOS. See if you find an external boot device you can use and if you can boot up with that. For a little big more on that error check on here

Never give up on fixing things and no time for sadness. When the going gets tough.....;-)

Repair is War on entropy.

@oldturkey03 It's sometimes related to bad RAM with HP, not the system board. They use the cheapest crappiest possible RAM in their machines, which is why I buy them with 16GB (new) out of the gate (if it isn't soldered, soldered is a death sentence) and put 32GB of good dual sided RAM in them. 8GB used, btw; doesn't matter when I'm ripping it out.

Other times yeah, system board. I use a HP Pavilion with a bad board as a literal doorstop. It's just a PDC economy laptop (g6), not worth fixing. I can reuse the screen, but that's about it; rest isn't worth pulling off..

When I write hardware off as unrepairable, it actually is. I tried pulling the CMOS battery as well; it just cuts power off to itself every 15 seconds and loops to its death. Low end laptops aren't inherently "bad" if it's all you can afford, but like sorry not sorry but if you're buying used buy the freaking i5 or i7 version...

Hello @Nick I did everything you said in that message, remove the CMOS battery, I even replaced it. I also replaced the RAM which seemed to have improved the time the device stays on and runs without get the blue screen error.

@oldturkey03 hewo there! Yes I do believe it's something about the GPU drivers/CPU graphical drivers. While I do believe something's fishy about them I do also believe I should update the BIOS to the newest version too, the current BIOS version is from 2021. For a GPU the device has a QUADRO M3000M.

Note: when the device would boot up, I would look into Device Manager at the Display Adaptors and I would only see the QUADRO in there. Should I be worried? Shouldn't there be something else too? Something from Intel?

@incredibleram, 5 blinks on the HPs means there’s a board level problem with the system. Usually it’s the onboard controller that prevents it from completing a normal POST.

I how old is your system, and did you buy it new or used?

A board level repair requires above normal DIY level skills, and quite a bit of setup to do.

Hello there! The system is from 2019, or so says in the BIOS info tab. The system is second hand indeed.

@incredibleram Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this will require you to either delve deep into the world of board level diagnostics or hand it in to a reputable repair shop 😔

Huge sadness flows through my veins right now.
