How to replace the LCD/ fix screen?

So a friend of mine damaged a laptop recently. It appears to be functional software wise, but the screen is damaged. Parts of the screen are black and have lines on it (I have attached an image). I am assuming it is an LCD replacement. But before I order parts and do this repair, a second opinion would be helpful (especially since this specific model had nothing on its page until I made this).

Ideas?

Hi Jake,

Yeah, your instincts are spot on in this case; that's a classic picture of a broken LCD.

As you've already found, unfortunately iFixit doesn't have any guides for you, but luckily Lenovo provides its Hardware Maintenance manuals to the general public, so good for them. Here's a link to what you need for instructions on how to replace the LCD.

IdeaPad 3 (14″, 05), IdeaPad 3 (15″, 05), IdeaPad 3 (17″, 05) , IdeaPad Slim 3 (14″, 05), IdeaPad Slim 3 (15″, 05), IdeaPad Slim 3 (17″, 05) Hardware Maintenance Manual

Amazon has those screens in stock, but I note there are four different options; you'll need to figure out which one you have so you can get the correct replacement. There's FHD vs. HD, Matte vs. Glossy and one version with a touch screen. The FHD only comes in a matte finish, while the HD screen comes in either matte or glossy, and the one with the touchscreen only comes in the matte finish. With a HD screen, it's your choice whether you want matte or glossy; you can use either one if you don't have a touch screen.

This is just the first result I came up with; it will cost you somewhere between $80 and $90 USD from Amazon. You can also check eBay and AliExpress where you may be able to find it cheaper.

Hello Jerry!

Thank you for reaching out AND providing links to the parts. The second opinion is extremely helpful. I sadly cannot afford parts between $80-$90 currently, but once I can, I will be able to tackle this issue.

Thanks Again!

@jakesrepair Well, that was just the first one I ran across as an example. You can always try eBay for used ones; I've had good luck with them - after all, it's not like the screen actually failed, rather it was broken. Right now there's one on there with scratches for about $30, with new ones starting at about $57.

Speaking of damage, I do note that the upper right hand part of the display case is definitely broken; if it's just the bezel that's no big deal, but it looks like the hinge support has come off from the LCD, so you'll need to check the rear cover for broken screw mounts and the like. Those parts are also available on ebay fairly inexpensively.
