If you disable and choose not to use FaceID is it still scanning?

If you disable and choose not to use FaceID is it still constantly scanning for your face and using the dot projector to project the IR dots or are those things turned completely off and the FaceID components are completely off and don't do anything?

Diese Frage beantworten Ich habe das gleiche Problem

Ist dies eine gute Frage?

To be honest the radio waves when you are on a call probably put out more power than Face ID does, plus it lasts a hell of a lot longer.

it won't scan for your face, but the components will still work as they help the front camera. Expect for the ir dots will not work as that's really just for face id. it isn't scanning your face as it doesn't need to if you turn off face id.

The ir still works with Face ID turned off. I held another phone with the camera on over my xs with Face ID turned on then turned off. Both times you can see the ir working.

That doesn’t seem safe. Especially if you are turning it off for safety reasons because the Face ID parts may be after market.

@thequacker I only worry about the Face ID having aftermarket parts and still working. I don’t want an android, as I have always used an iPhone, and I am autistic and prefer to stick with iPhone. I also want to try refurbished phones just to see what it’s like because it seems like a lot of people use refurbished and used phones. Even Apple says that aftermarket Face ID parts can harm your eyes or skin.

@thequacker I wish I could mark this up like you do for answers lol

@ahawkua i know your are worried, and i get it as i can't use OLED devices without feeling nauseous.

i agree with @thequacker on buying a se if you think ir will harm you, it won't harm you, but i guess if you think so, then the best route is to buy a se and sell your 11

@ahawkua Not to be rude but I feel like you are over obsessed with the safety of it. Just because you have an aftermarket part doesn’t mean it is going to blind you. Thousands of people are using non oem parts with no ill effects. And if it wasn’t safe then it wouldn’t pass the many tests done by many independent researchers. I can understand being worried about aftermarket parts but something like this would not cause any harm and asking it multiple times and iFixit and Reddit isn’t going to yield a different answer. If you are that worried about the IR projector why not get an SE or an Android that doesn’t include it? Standing in front of a microwave would be more harmful than a quick burst of IR. Not to mention the many other objects that you probably interact with daily also have IR such as TV remotes.
