Is this the first iteration of the Magic Keyboard that takes two double-A batteries? If so, you could turn it off by removing the batteries. If it's the Magic Keyboard 2 with rechargeable batteries, and you've toggled the switch into position so that none of the green shows on the toggle switch and it doesn't turn off, then you'll need to try to manually repair the toggle switch or you'll have to wait for the battery to fully drain. If the toggle switch is broken you may need to open up the device to fix it, which could be difficult on that model and is probably not recommended since the device is relatively cheap to replace. You may be able to get it to turn off by continuing to mess with the toggle switch with the hopes that it eventually works itself into the correct alignment to turn off. Good luck!

I'm still looking for an answer to this. This doesn't sound like a hardware problem - from posts all over the net, it sounds like it's done by "design" (for what reason, nobody seems to have an answer for)

I was really excited about carrying my Magic Keyboard 2 because I can shut it off while it's my laptop bag - now I'm not convinced this is the case (but I haven't done enough traveling to really know)

All I know if the Magic Keyboard 1 definitely drains while in a bag that I have to take out the batteries (and this is after holding down the power switch on the right)

ps. I missed the part about dropping the key board - I mistakenly thought you had this issue:

https://apple.stackexchange.com/a/430906...

"Sometimes moving the switch all the way to the left (off position) is never going to shut off your keyboard. Instead, you need to move it all the way to the left (100% off), and then move it a tiny bit back to the right, so that it's in the 90% off position."

this shockingly works and now I wonder exactly what is going on from a hardware perspective given the sheer # of people who experience this issue!
