Screen won't turn on after screen (and battery) replacement

As described in the title, after I replaced my iPad's battery and screen, the screen won't turn on any more. I've observed:

  • When I plug the iPad, I hear the sound effect of it getting connected.
  • I can connect it to my mbp through the usb cable and make it appear on FInder. It shows that the battery's at 100% charge, I can even make it sync the contents.

I think the observations show that the problem does not come from the battery, but I don't know what could I have messed up during the process. Any hint of what could be happening?

Edit1: by suggestion of one of the responders, I saw that the images were forming on the screen, with no backlight, so it seems a backlight issue. What could be causing this? Is it a faulty screen I bought or did I mess some component?

Thiis could be a few things. When you say there's nothing on the screen, do you see anything if you shine a flashlight at the screen? If you get an image on screen, could be an issue with your backlight. Which could be a bad screen, or an issue introduced during the repair.

If not, I would wager it's a bad screen. The replacement could just be faulty. Does the old screen work well enough to test? See what happens if you connect that instead.

Wow, now that you say that, I tried turning the iPad on and I could see the apple logo, very very faintly, you could barely see it, but it was there. Then I could see the hello message of when you are setting a new iPad (I did restore it from my Mac, so guess that's normal). What do you think could be causing this backlight issue? Is it the replacement screen's fault or could I have messed something during dis and re-assembly?

Thank you very much for your response!

@jackiechun It could be either. But this is a really common issue on iPad screen replacements.

IPad batteries are usually difficulty to disconnect from the board. Even if the iPad is off there is still power running through the board. So if the battery is not fully disconnected, when you reconnect the screen, power bridges into lines it shouldn’t. Which could have damaged components on the board that are related to backlight.

It’s an extremely common board issue. But in order to fix this you will need to diagnose which backlight components are bad and replace them. Or find someone who can.

If you have a multimeter you can check for these issues (I can elaborate if need be just I don’t have boardview in front of me so not sure where to tell you to test), but it’s pretty likely there are blown components on your board.
