No chime or external display after erase from recovery mode.

I found an early 2020 MacBook Air 13" at the e-waste center with a cracked screen (bottom half shaking). I took it home and it had a login password, but I was able to use an external display to get into recovery mode and get to the erase all content and settings option (which I believe means activation lock wasn't set up). It turned off (I assumed to restart into setup) but now it won't chime or send video to my monitor. The trackpad haptic works, the backlight comes on and the fan spins up, but that's it. I tried leaving it sit in that state for about an hour with no change. At this point the screen is fully black, so I'm not sure if it wants me to insert a bootable installer (don't have, can't make since I don't have another Mac) or if it's just waiting for some input I can't see. I wanted to see if there's anything I can do to make sure I'll be able to set it up for myself without a new screen since I don't want to spend the money on a new screen only to find out it has activation lock set up and have wasted $180.

Edit: forgot to note that I've tried all the startup keyboard shortcuts to no effect. Tried to enter target disk mode and connect it to my Windows laptop, to no effect (for whatever that's worth since I'm not sure that's a windows thing or the Mac is dead) Also, it will make the charger connect chime, so I'd assume some portion of the hardwqre is still alive.

Borrowed a screen from a friend's MacBook, it was in internet recovery and turned out to be iCloud locked anyways
