The phone only works on 2G (GSM/CDMA1) which is now outdated and has been superseded in most places. So unless there are phone service providers in your location who still have a working 2G network you can't use it anymore.
Software updates can't overcome the limitations imposed by hardware design
Examples of this from a quick search online shows that the last major 2G service provider in the USA will shut down its 2G network in 2024. In the U.K. it is 2033. Here's a list for the rest of the world.
