Does my late 2011 17" A1927 have a 32 bit cpu?
My laptop has Catalina OS.
How is this possible?

This is not correct! Review this listing to see what your given system has 17” MacBook Pro (A1297). This can be confusing as some in this series have a split CPU architecture. What it has internally and what it has externally are different review the Intel Core Duo 2 specs as far as the 2011/12 models (i5 & i7) they are 64Bit but the EFI firmware and the calls are 32Bit.

I am 72 yo & a late newbie after 40+ years in construction & remodeling.
I have elected to use the late 2011 A1297 series due to my failing eyesight.
That is why I have 3 laptops to ensure I have backup protection rather than spending more $ that I don't have on the latest models.
I bought the 1 laptop for $300 that has the Catalina OS but I don't know how it got done.
I need help to upgrade the 2 laptops with the same specs, so I can go forward secure in the knowledge that I can deal with the many mundane tasks that takes up 80% of my life

@xmaslovechild - To be clear you have three of the same model (all are 2011 or 2012)? Is that correct?

The CPU is either a i7-2760QM (2.4GHz) or a i7-2860QM (2.5GHz) both of which are Quad Core 64-bit Intel Mobile Core i7. Both also have a 64 bit EFI architecture
