I have a new battery and new charger

I have a MacBook Pro 15.3 mid 2013 model, I have recently replaced the battery as I thought it was dead as it wouldn't charge. So I have a new battery and a new charger however the battery still won't charge

All I can think is that there is an issue with the charging port, the amber charging light comes on but after 5 hours on charge there was still no life.

Is this an easy fix or is there any way to test if there is a fault with the circuit

Ist dies eine gute Frage?

FYI - There is no mid 2013 either it’s an Early or Late model. I’ve set it to be later please double check going the the About this Mac dialog and let us know as these two systems are slightly different internally.

Thanks Dan I got it in 2014 as part of a student package it’s not the retina model

I don’t know if that will help to date it

The model is an A1398 if that helps

Install this gem of an App CoconutBattery take a snapshot of the main window and post it here. Make sure the charger is plugged in and the MagSafe LED is lit.

Once we see the current state of things we can tell you the next steps. Do shut the system down as you don’t want the battery to fully drain down.

Thank you for that, the battery is fully drained, it hasn’t been charged because it won’t charge

@alanhanley - So that makes things harder as we now don’t know if the battery is even good.

Lets give this a try… carefully disconnect the battery and any other devices and charger. Now press and hold the Power button holding it down for a good 15secs. With the battery still disconnected plug in the charger, note the MagSafe LED should blink and hopefully the system should spontaneously start. If it does let it fully boot up and do a proper shutdown. Now reconnect the battery and plug the charger back in. Leave it off for a good four hours (better if you can wait till the morning).

Let us know what happens and report after you restart the system.
