Sony tv KDF-60XBR950 TV will not turn on.

When either power button on unit or remote is pressed the unit will not turn on. Green stand-by light changes to red light and flashes 6 times indicating a problem. Following several attempts, the unit will turn on and operate normally. Is there a fix that the homeowner can perform?

@roger30093 as honakrisi already mentioned, the 6-blink error comes from the power supply. Yes, you can do that. Unplug your TV and remove the back cover. You can now see the power board as well as all the other board. Teh power board is the one where the power cord plugs into. disconnect all connectors that lead to the other boards and the LCD panel from the power supply. Then remove the screws that hold the power board to the metal of the TV. Replace it with a new one by reversing your steps.

Hi @roger30093

According to the service manual of the TV, 6 flashes indication a 17 Volt rail missing on the G1 (power supply board).

This Board is responsible for creating all the necessary power rails for your TV. It is quite difficult to pinpoint your problem as it could be any component on that 17V rail.

Since it is the main power circuit, be very careful if you attempt to disassemble and test it yourself as the main capacitors could hold a charge for quite sometime and touching them while they are charged could lead to serious electrocution!

Does anyone know if the parts are still available for this twenty year old set?

@roger30093 take a look at your power board. There should be a couple numbers on there. something like " 1-689-728-11" or similar. that is the part number for the PSU. Yes, they are still around but most are either used (which is ok cause it's less expensive) or a couple of rebuilds.
