The elevation on my Garmin Fenix 5 does not record during an activity. I have followed Garmin instruction re cleaning the port and calibrating and the watch seems to calibrate fine when not being used to record an activity. But during both run and cycling activities outdoors it records zero elevation variation throughout the activities. Any advice would be appreciated TIA

No never solved it I’m afraid. Spoke to Garmin who said it was irreparable as the watch was no longer supported and they gave me a discount on a newer model.

Most garmin watches with a single sensor, altimeter temperature barometer, fail after some contact with water. If you swim with a garmin watch with that sensor, eventually it will fail. At first it gives fluctuating readings of elevation, finally failing completely. There is no cure except to replace the sensor. On a Fenix this is easy, as there are screws holding everything together. On a Forerunner, they are glued together and there are no screws. This is an extremely common fault. The more you swim, the quicker your barometer altimeter temperature combined sensor will eventually fail. Interesting that you won't see this common failure mentioned as a common failure on popular so called watch review blogs - so it is obvious that they don't like to comment on it. Nearly $1000 on a watch that has such a common failure quickly despite being advertised as being compatible with swimming is a disgrace.

Has GPS been enabled for both of these activities?

Yes and recorded location throughout both activities. I calibrated the watxh and went for a run this morning it calibrated at 52m, which is correct for my home. I then on a run I have done previously and at the highest point the elevation was still 54m despite that point being 250m.
Every other metric on all three activities have been recorded as normal, it is just the elevation details missing.

Yes the latest software is installed, it had an update yesterday.

Don't know if you've tried this but the only thing left that I can think of is to reset it back to default settings and check.
Sometimes updates only add or change parts of the system oftware and may not correct any corrupted software if it wasn't part of the update
