Laptop not turning on/No signs or indicator of charging when plugged

This is a recent incident. To be precise, it happened on June 11. After doing Shift + Click Shutdown, I clicked the power button the next morning. It didn't open and I plugged the charger and checked the indicators. It didn't show a red light (as the usual charging indicator). I looked at some solutions around the web. However, I couldn't fix the same problem so I figured out how to open the laptop and reconnect the battery. At first, it works then after shutting down again. I had to open up the laptop and reconnect the battery. I also looked for another way to open it by holding the power button for a minute and then pressing it again. It turns on.

This is my first time encountering the problem. I do not know the actual cause but I bought a brand-new charger with the adapter online and I'm currently using it and the same model from the older charger. But then, I've been using it for a few days. I'm guessing this might be the problem.

I need some advice on how to fix this problem. I'm considering buying a new battery for the laptop.

Disconnecting the battery and then pressing the power button for 1 minute is resetting the BIOS back to default so by doing this it is potentially removing any corrupted data in the BIOS that is preventing the laptop from starting/working properly.

In other laptops they use a separate non rechargeable coin cell battery known as an RTC or cmos battery connected to the motherboard to maintain the BIOS when the laptop is off and when it gets low it can lead to the BIOS becoming corrupted, preventing normal operation.

In your model laptop though there is no separate RTC battery as the function is provided by a feed from the main battery. The thinking behind this is that the main battery is always in a charged state and will last longer. This is just to give you some context regarding what may be happening.

Create a battery report to check that status of the battery.

When you have the report, compare the Design Capacity value versus the Full Charge Capacity value as shown by the report. For a good battery the values are very close. You can work out as a percentage the condition of the battery by using the formula Full Charge Capacity value x 100 ÷ Design Capacity value.

If the percentage value is ~35% I would consider replacing the battery. The battery model number is found on the battery itself. Search online for the model number only to find suppliers that suit you best. That way you know that you're getting the correct one, although this doesn't stop cheap imitations being sold either so be careful. Do some basic checks first e.g. check what warranty or guarantee the seller offers, do they accept returns etc.

Just to verify that it is turning on OK with either charger but you have to do a reset every time to make it turn on is this correct?

When you measured the battery just now had the laptop been on the charger for a while or just started?

Have to tried using it on the battery only and checked how long it lasts? Don't allow it to get completely flat go down to only 35%

It still could be the battery as it may indicate that it has charge OK but it discharges very quickly or quicker that it should.

Just trying to eliminate possibilities because a no charging indication could also be a faulty DC-In jack where the charger plugs in to the laptop but this would affect any charger and not just one and a reset wouldn't fix that unless it is loose from the motherboard and disconnecting the battery to reset causes movement which makes it work OK again.

Yes, I have to reset every time I want to open the laptop, regardless of whether it's plugged in or not. I just checked the battery using the charger, and it went down to 5% yesterday when I used just the battery. I haven't checked all the components thoroughly, as I mainly focused on disconnecting and reconnecting the battery.

Let me clarify the issue with the charging indicator. After shutting down the laptop, I tried to turn it back on, but it didn't work. I then plugged in the charger to see if it indicated that it was charging, but it didn't. So, I proceeded to hold the power button for 1 minute.

How long did it take to get down to 5%?

If really not that long it seems like the battery regardless that it shows that it fully charges to 71% i.e it may charge to a value equivalent to 71% but this doesn't mean that it will last as long as it should as it may be failing to hold the charge. That 's why I asked about length of time when on battery only

Problem is though unless you change the battery so that you can verify whether it is the problem or not, if it is the problem and you haven't changed it, you may be wasting a lot of time looking for something else that isn't there.

@jayeff I can't say the approximate minutes but I watched some movies in it yesterday. I might try it again.

No, I haven't changed the battery yet. I've been using this laptop since '22. Is there anything I can do for now to resolve the issue?
