The Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15IIL05 is a mid-range laptop designed for general computing tasks.

Powers on but no display output

The screen on my Lenovo ideapad 3 often glitches out then causes the computer to freeze, notably this only seems to happen when the computer is under some sought of physical strain. after it freezes I have to power it off then often when I try to power it back on again the power light goes on, the fans spool up but there is no output to the display, when I try an external display, nothing. Thanks for any help

@rowangadhia this "I try an external display, nothing" in combination with this "this only seems to happen when the computer is under some sought of physical strain." it does sound like you are having an issue with the GPU or possibly even the CPU since it does freeze. Time to open it up and to check the motherboard. You also want to check, and possibly change the thermal paste, as well as clean all the air inlets etc. Just in case this is an issue with overheating. Also, try a different RAM module, make sure that yours is properly seated etc.

Use this Ideapad 3 15IIL05 Hardware Maintenance Manual to work on your Lenovo. Page 36 and on are about the fan and the heatsink. Use something like Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon (4th Gen) Thermal Paste Replacement for a repaste (different model, same idea).

is there any chance there is a loose cable or connector? I really hope it isn't a problem with the chipset!

@rowangadhia sure. That is always a possibility. Just remember, a loose cable would have this error no matter what. It would not depend on the "workload" Also, with a loose cable an external monitor would still work since the connector for that is soldered to the motherboard. There is nothing wrong with checking everything out.

@oldturkey03 when i mean workload, I mean when i lift it up or move it, so I think it could be something is shifting when I lift it up.

von

@rowangadhia Ah, I see. I mistook it as workload on the processor. Sure, use the maintenance manual and open it up. Take a look and let us know what you find.

von

@rowangadhia the board looks okay, but that only means I can't see any obvious damaged components. I can't make out the board number (beside the Fan) Looks like an NM-0031 Can you verify this number?
