My speedometer dont work at all
I bought a new 1997 chevy neon and the speedometers and gauges dont work. they just lay on the left. How can i fix this

I'm assuming you mean a chrysler / dodge neon?
I used to own a '96, and I had an intermittent issue with the speedometer. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn't, and smacking the dash would sometimes make it work again.
I removed the gauge cluster and found a cold solder joint on one of the connections to the PCB. After reheating the joint and adding a little extra solder, the gauges worked fine ever since.

Does the Engine Control Module have any Diagnostic Trouble Codes stored in it's memory? You might have a Vehicle Speed Sensor fault.

In mine, at least, the cruise control still works, so it appears to be a display issue rather than a sensing issue.
The instrument cluster has bad solder joints on the main plug. Take the cluster out (carefully) and re-solder ALL the pins ,(main large plug) very easy to do, just use a small solder iron, put it at the base where the pins go into the board and just heat one pin at a time until the solder has melted (very easy to tell, believe me you will SEE it) then move the iron away. let it cool ( you will actually SEE this also) do this for each pin and your finished. Reassemble and pretty much everything will work. This will also sometimes fix the pesky check engine light as the main signal buss is through this plug. so possible transmission shifting problems, emissions failure etc. may be fixed by this. I love dodge vehicles but like all, they have their quirks.

Hi there, I am having this exact same problem. What is the best way to remove the instrument cluster? Any "tricks"? Thanks!
Screwdriver and being careful Dodge/Chrysler products are pretty easy to come out. then it is taking a lot more screws out of the cluster to expose the PCB board. just take you time, don't rush and you will be successful and have a pretty good feeling that if you look on utube for problems and the fix-it videos you can fix almost everything.

There is a wire harness to the left of my clutch, I made small jumper wires for each one, stuck them in n voila everything works again.
Before NOT only my speedometer but GAS gage, nothing worked.
It all works fine now.

It seems to be a common issue. The same thing happened to mine, and after I replaced the dash, it happened again. Now I'm just good at estimating speeds. :)
