Einleitung
In this teardown we will reveal the internals of this wonderful device, and see what is driving the realistic graphics, LEDs and 120+ sound effects
Was du brauchst

-
The table has 4 different play regions: Puppy's home, the market, the zoo and the farm
-
It also has the phone. Designed to call Puppy and friends.
-
-
-
All 4 legs removed
-
Each leg has a giant clip, that holds it in place. There is a neat tab to detach it from the table (see pictures)
-
-
-
"Laugh and Learn" is powered by 3 AA batteries
-
Depending on usage and type of the battery they deliver between 3 to 24 months of fun
-
The battery compartment has a gasket to protect the batteries from water (or other liquids) - very thoughtful of a typical user
-
-
-
-
After unscrewing 16 screws we can finally lift the bottom side
-
The on/off switch wire connector
-
-
-
We love modular design!
-
The internal side of the main board features:
-
60mm fan assembly with a single heat pipe and a tiny radiator
-
Authenticity label
-
Mini PCIe slot for wireless communication
-
DDR3 RAM slot, to buffer the audio effects
-
On the front side there is a tiny battery, that is probably used to back-up language settings
-
-
-
After removing the heatsink-and-fan assembly, the CPU is revealed
-
Intel i3-4005U CPU, featuring 2 cores (4 threads) running at 1.7 GHz and integrated HD4400 graphics, delivering the realistic experience of moving and talking animals and providing fast response for every button pressed on the device
-
The CPU is soldered down to the board, so there are no possible upgrades here
-
The wireless is powered by Qualcomm Atheros QCWB335 2.4GHz SB 1x1 Wi-Fi + BT 4.0
-
-
-
This is a standard model used for Laugh and Learn. For privacy resons there are no cameras on this phone. Major specs:
-
Android 6 (Marshmallow)
-
3.5" e-paper display. Our team was surprised by the quality - it really looks like a paper sticker!
-
2 buttons: home and back
-
Snapdragon 600 series chipset with 3G modem
-
-
-
The device is firmly built and easy to disassemble/repair. The only drawback is soldered down CPU
-
If we were asked about repairability score - the answer is 17
-
Thanks for reading this teardown!

Do you think you folks will be doing a Teardown for the rev. 2 logicboard? The Xeon’s cooling system looks like it’s permanently sealed shut (non-refillable) and I can’t figure out how to remove the GPS antennae
Do you think it world be possible to pop the piano keys off to clean them underneath? My 1/red button is sticky and wears the batteries out really quickly
Yes, it is possible. Switch the toy OFF. You need a long phillips screwdriver to reach all the 16 screws on the bottom. Disconnect the power wire when you lift the plastic - see photo in Step 4. Then carefully unscrew the little green board (see Step 5, on the right) and you’ll be able to remove and clean the buttons. Placing the buttons back might be a bit tricky. Good luck!
That was actually the reason why I took it apart - my kid was drooling on the piano and half of the keys stopped working :)

Do you think it's possible to repair the light? I opened it looking for a Christmas tree light type bulb to replace and found a soldered led light. Not sure how to fix that.
Hi Rachel, I think the issue is not the LED. Most likely one of the "paths" on the circuit board (PCB) is corroded and destroyed. This is what happened in my case, because of kiddo constantly drooling on the keyboard a few keys stopped working. But when I took it apart, the keys were actually fine, and when I looked closer I discovered that PCB was corroded and had to solder 2 wires to restore the connectivity where it meant to be. Hope that helps!

I need help. The keyboard on number 1 and 2 get stuck and repeats and saying level 1. When switching to level 2 and 3, it just makes weird noises. Why could this be happening when last night it was working fine. My 10 month old flipped the table and crawled over it.
This is most likely caused by your kid drooling on the table. If you're brave enough to take it apart - cleaning the tiny circuit board might help. I'm talking about the bottom left board from Step 5. Good luck!

Is there any switch for changing language?
Unfortunately there isn't. Level 2 adds some Spanish, but there is no language switch (even hidden)

The toy is lighting up but won't make any sound! Battery's replaced, toy hasn't gotten wet...any ideas?
