ASUS ZenFone 2 Troubleshooting

Released March 2015, identified by model ZE551ML.

Phone is Slow ¶

Phone is functioning at a slower pace than anticipated.

Too Many Apps Running Simultaneously ¶

If your phone is slow or jumpy, otherwise known as "laggy", it could be that you have too many apps running at the same time. Try the following actions to help with app management:

  • Clear recent apps from running in the background: Press the button on the bottom right corner of the front of the screen that resembles cascading windows. From there, you can either close out each application individually by pressing the "X" icon at the top-right of each window individually, or press the bottom-right button with three boxes and a "X" icon to close all the applications at once.
  • Use "Auto-start Manager" and stop unwanted background processes from starting up upon powering on: Open up the Auto-start Manager application. From there you can go into the "preloaded" and "downloaded" sections to determine which applications you would prefer to not start up automatically, and then ensure these applications are set to "deny."
  • If you're running a high-performance app, try enabling the Performance Mode: Start by going into your settings. From there, select "Power management" and then select "Power Saver." Next, select "Performance."

Phone Requires a System Restart ¶

If managing your apps does not help with the phone's slowness, try a system restart. To restart your phone, press and hold down the power button (located at the top of your phone) for a short period of time until a menu appears with a restart option. If that doesn't work, you can just press and hold down the power button until it turns off, and then push the power button again to turn it back on.

If you've encountered a positive experience from pursuing the above, then it would be a good idea to restart the phone daily.

Phone Won't Power On ¶

Phone won't turn on when the power button is pushed.

Phone is Out of Battery ¶

If your phone won't turn on when you push the power button, the problem could be as simple as it being out of battery. Plug in your phone to charge and once it has enough battery, it will properly power on.

Faulty Battery ¶

If you have plugged in your phone to charge for awhile and it still won't turn on, then it could be that the battery is faulty. Please check out our battery replacement guide for assistance with installing a new one.

Faulty Motherboard ¶

If the phone still won't turn on after you have replaced the battery, then the problem may lie within the motherboard and it will need to be replaced. See our motherboard replacement guide.

Phone Won't Charge ¶

Phone does not seems like it is charging.

Bad Outlet ¶

If your phone does not seems like it is charging when you plug it in, it could be that the outlet you have plugged the charger into is bad. Unplug the charger from that outlet and plug it into a different one.

Faulty Charger ¶

If your phone still won't charge after you have tried plugging it into other outlets, the problem could be with your charger. Unplug the charger from the phone and plug it back into the phone, making sure it is in correctly. If the phone stills won't charge then your charger is broken and you will need to buy a new one.

Faulty Battery ¶

If you are still unable to charge your phone after getting a new charger, then the battery is faulty and will need to be replaced. Please check out our battery replacement guide for assistance with installing a new one.

Display is Dark or has Discoloration ¶

Display not functioning as it should. It has dead pixels, little to no back-light, or discoloration.

Phone Requires a System Restart ¶

The problem with a display not looking and functioning as it should could be as simple as the phone needing a restart. Restart the phone by pressing and holding down the power button (located at the top of your phone) for a short period of time until a menu appears with a restart option. If that doesn't work, you can just press and hold down the power button until it turns off, and then push the power button again to turn it back on.

Bad Display ¶

If restarting your phone doesn't fix the issue, then it is possible that the display is bad. Refer to our display replacement guide to install a new one.

Cracked or Broken Display ¶

Display Needs to be Replaced ¶

Bad Signal ¶

Location has Bad Service ¶

The location that you are in could have bad service which would cause you to have bad signal. Go to a different location and you should get a better signal.

Loose Antennae ¶

If you have good signal most of the time but other times it just cuts out or is weak, you could have a loose antennae. You may refer to our antennae replacement guide for help with locating your antennae.

Faulty Antennae ¶

If the phone's signal isn't as good as it should be on a daily basis, then your antennae could be faulty. Try replacing your antennae using our antennae replacement guide.

Phone Won't Vibrate ¶

Weak or nonexistent vibrations.

Vibration Setting Disabled for Phone Calls ¶

If you've noticed that the phone isn't vibrating when it should, make sure your vibration setting is enabled. This can be done in Settings. First, swipe down from the top of the screen, and then tap on the Settings Symbol (Gear Icon). Next, scroll down to "Sound & Notification", and ensure that that "Also vibrate for calls" is enabled.

Faulty Vibration Motor ¶

If the vibration setting is enabled, but the vibration has stopped occurring when it should, or if the magnitude has diminished, the vibration motor is probably faulty and will need to be replaced. Please refer to our vibration motor replacement guide for help.

Phone Reboots by Itself ¶

Phone reboots itself at random times.

Faulty Motherboard ¶

If you have problems with your phone rebooting at random times, you could have a faulty motherboard in your phone. Please refer to our motherboard replacement guide.

So I accidentally dropped my phone on the screen side. Now my phone screen won’t turn on. Is the screen broken and won’t turn on or are there any chances of it turning on.

My phone suffers from phantom clicks and screen lockups but pressing the off button off then on fixes it. Not a full reboot just two presses of the top button.
