RAM Failure
Issues with RAM, graphics cards, or motherboards can cause the screen to freeze up. We can fix this by reseating the RAM. To reseat the RAM, you're going to need to follow these steps
- Power off the device
- Remove the battery
- Carefully take out RAM
- Before reinserting the RAM, look for any visible damages done to the RAM.
A second thing you can do if this doesn't work is run hardware diagnostics. You can access diagnostics from the boot menu. You can access this by pressing F2 or ESC keys on the device.
Corrupted Software or Operating System
System Files can become corrupted whenever the computer is shut down incorrectly and software conflicts. We can fix corrupted system files by putting them into safe mode. To put the device into safe mode, you'll need to
- Restart the device
- Press F8 or press Shift + F8 before having it powered on
- Select "Safe Mode" from the menu
- In safe mode run a system checker by opening the command prompt
- Type sfc/scan now to repair any corrupted files.
Overheating Issues
Overheating can lead to screen freezing, often caused by dust buildup and blocked vents. To clean the dust build one should get compressed air.
- Ensure the device is on a hard flat surface for proper airflow to flow through the vents and fans.
- Spray the device with compressed air where any dust is visible in the device
Incompatibility
Installing new hardware or software may not be compatible with the existing system which can cause the device to freeze up. Some simple solutions to this problem could be
- Removing any recent software or hardware updates
- Ensure all drivers are up to date through the device manager
