Is my 820-1763-A motherboard compatible with 80gb hard drives?

Hello all,

I have an iPod video 5th gen 30 gb (model: MA002NF, motherboard: 820-1763-A (32mb ram), hard drive: Toshiba MK3008GAL 30gb) and I'm thinking of upgrading it with a 60gb or 80gb hard drive.

I prefer a 80gb over a 60gb drive. However, I'm not sure if my motherboard is compatible with hard drives bigger than 60gb. I've searched the internet and I've browsed ifixit. Some people say 80gb hard drives aren't supported at all, while others say they are supported but you can get problems with your ram when your itunesDB gets too big due to the amount of songs stored on your iPod. I've also seen people reporting that it does work.

The information I found on the internet is often incomplete and sources often contradict each other. That's why i decided to try my luck here. I'm sorry if a similar question has already been asked.

I found four possible 5mm hard drives for my iPod. Since I just replaced my battery and my headphone jack and I like my slim iPod, I don't want to replace my back cover with a larger one.

80GB:

Toshiba MK8025GAL 80GB 5mm

Samsung HS082HB 80GB 5mm

60GB:

Samsung HS06THB 60GB 5mm

Toshiba MK6028GAL 60GB 5mm

eBay-sellers confirm me those drives work in my iPod but I'm not entirely sure, especially not about the 80gb drives.

If possible, can someone please give me a complete explanation about the compatibility of the 820-1763-A motherboard with 80gb hard drives?

I would also appreciate if people can confirm that the listed hard drives work in a 30gb iPod video 5th gen with moterboard 820-1763-A

Last of all, I would like to know if there is a significant difference in performance between the samsung and the toshiba hard drives.

Kind regards,

Tim

It is compatible with the 60 gb not the 80gb. The 80gb is compatible with 120gb, 160 gb.
