Vibrator runs continuously after rebuild

My iPhone se had broken screen and damaged housing but worked ok. Bought new housing and transferred whole phone (as I have done on numerous occasions). On startup vibrator starts with Apple logo and runs continuously.

I have restored phone and replaced power cable. No change. Tried different vibrator motor too.

Any ideas?

I would suspect a damaged flex (look for a micro tear, probably on the edge) or FPC connector. Go back through this guide.

That's what I thought but problem persists after replacing power button cable with new

Did you check the connector on the logic board and its surrounding area. The connector may have been damaged or some small parts may have been pried from the board when lifting the connectors.

Hi yes. I got a technician friend to inspect. He said he removed a small metal "swarf" and I thought that would be it - but no!!

Exact same situation here: after a rebuild, it kept vibrating as long as tension was there (at startup, and when screen is on - and a little while after). I followed Eduards Blumbergs advices : I've reset this metal pin to its initial position (I suppose it's meant to be parallel), no result.

Then, with the phone powered on and opened, I tried to unscrew a bit the bridge-looking metal piece which links the vibrator to the other contact, and the vibrator stopped totally. I tightened it back, and it went crazy again.

Then, I unscrewed a bit only the top left screw, the one on the vibrator, until it stops, put my phone on silent mode, and with another phone, I call my iPhone SE, and it vibrated only when needed!

I guess too much pressure on it was forcing the contact on the power bracket under it.

Thanks for all your input, glad I found this thread, which is a lot more accurate and technical than all other google results (“my phone fell in water and keeps vibrating, help”)

You sir, saved my day! Thank you! I've been changing the case for the first time and worked on it for 4 hours only to then face this problem. Unscrewed a litte while phone was running and it's working fine now! :)

The motor has two contact legs at the bottom with an insulation pad glued to the housing which went bad i guess. A piece of tape fixed it.

Make sure that metal pin that is attached to display assembly is not bent, so it can not touch the vibromotor properly.

Also check for small pieces, dust and likewise in the connectors and interior of the phone. Clean with lint free q tip or small brush with rubbing alcohol and let it all dry. Also check all screws of the phone interior (also socket screws), if they are not tightened too much! Check if phone is not bent - if so, unscrew the motherboard, straighten it by wooden pieces and C-clamp.

This is an old post, but wanted to know did this ever got resolved or has this happened to anyone else?

Excactly the same thing happened to me today.

After rebuild when the phone is powered on the vibrator starts and does not stop until the phone is off.

I used housing with small parts included so might be the power-flex. Did not have time to try another power-flex. All the buttons work fine otherwise.

PS. There is lots of posts on the Apple forum this happening out of the blue without touching the hardware.

I have had the exact same problem. I transferred my iphone SE internals into the new housing. The housing came with small parts included, such as flex cables, head phone jack, vibrator, etc... Build went smooth, but at start up the vibrator wont stop. Even when the phones off, the vibratory will run for a second when i click the sleep/wake button. I know these are old post, but have these issues ever been resolved?

I suspect damaged flex if so! :(

I took out the vibrator supporting metal piece out and it works as expected. Guess some short happening when the metal support is placed

I know it is a fairly old thread, but I am still using (and loving) my old SE 2016, so maybe this could help someone else as well.
Yesterday I replaced the flex cable, as my power button was not working. After assembling the phone the vibrator motor went on non stop like crazy.
After some time I figured out there was a short somewhere and I was measuring 3v on the grounding point just by the vibrator.
I have simply covered the contact points from under and over with insulation tape and that did the job.
