Why is half of my screen not viewable due to static screen?

Half of my phone screen is static (hope I described that the right way) wish I could add a picture of the problem..

The entire screen still respond to touch but because of the staitc I can only see half of the content on the screen.

All of the other functions of the phone work properly.

I think the cause of the problem I due to the phone overheating while I was multi tasking, I admit I pushed the phone to it's limits.

I love my Axon 7, can someone please help me get it work back properly?

Hold your phone upright with the screen facing you. Pinch the right side of the phone up and down, you may or may not hear or feel a click. your display should now be working.

Edit: OMG I'm still getting emails from ifixit on this post, glad I could help you guys. I love taking apart almost every phone I buy and learning every nook and cranny

Thank you so much my friend save me a new phone ..business moves money..and stress wish god to bless thank u once again

Thank you! Happened to me suddenly a year ago, but I didn't even try fixing it since I was sure it must be a system issue - should've known better.

You saved me from buying another one (I'm not too fond of my Pocophone that replaced it).

Didnt immediately produce permanent fix.I found pressing the screen (pinching) at the top of the screen almost to the speaker bar kept the screen whole, allowing me to use the touch screen and phone functions. After a while it stayed fixed.Woot.

Plugged in usb charger and goodbye fix.Disassembled phone, six screws not four(oops). The screen cable was immediately accessible. It has a cover held one with one screw and clips onto a post on the other side.Maybe I could have pressed down on the connector through the cover, but I took it off instead. The first time I laid the connector down loosely and replaced the cover. That did not work so I took the cover off again lifted the cable connector off and then replaced it pressing on it.I felt it click into place and that fixed it.

Used a hair dryer for heat, xacto knife and plastic shims cut from soft plastic lids and shaped with scissors, cutting at an angle to get the sloped edge.

About an hour,not too ugly.

I have the same issue but I got it after dropping my phone on my foot and bouncing off itt to a wooden floor.

Does ifixit have a toolset or whatever to open and reconnect the screenconnector thingamajig?

Rolando Thompson use this video to work on your phone. It could be a bad connector but ultimately it sounds like a bad LCD.

Hi, I dropped my phone earlier and half the screen became static but every phone function was fine. However, after doing the hold right part method the static disappeared. which seems great but now my touch screen is completely unresponsive.

EDIT: I have now tried wiping the cache partition, as well as a factory reset, but both to no avail, screen does not work as of now

You didn't need to work on the OS this is a display connection issue. Most common after dropping your phone.

There was a screen ontop of screen. I deleted it by moving to X it out

That's the stupid split screen function, I've only activated that accidently, but it !#^&@! me off every time because I forget how to get it back to normal & usually it will close the screen I'm not trying to close.

I haven't used my axon 7 in a long time, but if you look at pictures of the inside you can see where the display cable plugs in, if you just apply pressure to that area it fixes it. very common issue

Axon 7 owners,

This method of fixing your phone may not give you a permanent repair. I got mine working again, but after a day or two, the problem came back. At least it allowed me to verify the LCD was still good, I've fixed a couple of HTC M8 phones, this one is similar, but in my opinion a little bit easier. Since I live in sunny California, I used the sunshine to get my phone heated up to soften the glue used in the assembly of modern phones. The speaker grills were a pain on my unit, but I have a tendency to be overly cautious & careful in any repairs I attempt. I used an x-acto knife with a #11 blade to carefully go around the perimeter of the grills & the display, once the grills are out of your way you'll see the six screws that hold the display to the back case. After taking them out with a T5 torx screwdriver, the glue keeps it all together still, so I left the unit in the sun for about 20 mins to get the temp up again, then using a blade from a utility knife for its rigidity, I worked the sides of the display until I could see some separation from the rear case, I had to increase my effort from gentle to aggressive while still taking a careful approach. It took me a lot longer than it should've, but after I had the display loose, it got a lot more straight forward. I found the display cable was halfway unplugged, but still in place, maybe a bit more pressure on the display before I took it apart would've achieved a permanent fix, but I needed to be sure it was fixed. I don't regret the time I spent on this as much as I do the 2 weeks of aggravation I got using one of my older phones. Be sure to work on a flat surface, with a towel or something to place your tools on, a snap lid container to keep the little parts in, & try to work in a well lit area with clean floors, I stress this because I often take things apart in the worst of places, so when I drop a small part it disappears into the abyss, sometimes I can find them, other times I've had to find a source for missing items. On this repair I managed to lose my SIM card tray in the early stages, so when I was done fixing it, I had to go on Ebay to buy a new one. I found the original, eventually, but not while I was searching for it everywhere I could think of.

This time waisting search for missing parts is pretty much a way of life for me, but it's extremely frustrating, at the very least.

If you want to try the fix that doesn't require taking the phone apart, you need to put even pressure on the right side edge of the screen, I seem to recall the connector being near the power button, but I started at the top of the screen, just under the speaker grill & using my thumb I slid down the length of the display over & over, but it only worked after I let the phone get hot in the sun. A heat gun would be more effective to control the heat, but I'm living off grid so I used the method that used the least electricity. If using the sun, be careful not to leave it with the display facing up, it can ruin it if you do, I left mine in the sun display facing down mostly. Be sure to remove your sim tray & cards before you start prying on the display, take your time or you'll need a new display & they aren't cheap like some other phones. Good luck to anyone who finds themselves needing to do this, I hope this info will help you, I watched the tutorial a few times before I did mine.
