7D Flash pops then power cuts off for a minute?

My 7D camera, with a speedlite but becuase the speedlite is huge I took it off to take some pictures only to find out that the flash pops out then camera power cuts off for about minute. Then you can hear the lens/or something inside releasing and its back to normal.

The camera works fine with a header flash and every other thing works just fine. Not in warrenty so dont want to send it to canon.

Any advice would help!
