device is charging but wont turn on

i recently found my old DSi XL yesterday and while the orange light would turn on, the system would not power on even when plugged in and at full charge. i went and looked at the battery and charging port and nothing appeared wrong. the system is quite old though and has likely experienced an amount of wear and tear.
