Can iMac 5k 2017 upgrade to i9 processor?
I would like to upgrade the CPU of my mid 2017 imac 5k retina (3.8 GHz Intel Core i5 with Radeon Pro 580 8192 MB) to the i9 9900k or 9900kf cpu. Is this possible? I believe that the pinout for both these chips is the same, but I’m not sure if the chipset will accept the new cpu and whether my current motherboard will be able to utilize the full power of i9 and the OS will be able to handle it.
Ist dies eine gute Frage?

I have a 2017 iMac and I run it with 2666 MHZ Ram (Well it shows as 2667 MHZ…) Works totally fine.
I have a 2018 Mac mini and removed it’s 2666 8 GB for an upgrade and put them in the iMac. and bought 32 GB separately , running the iMac with 40 GB of RAM totally fine.
I’m also exited if an i9 swap would work…

Hi people, does anyone else have another attitude on this topic? Do you believe that i5 5700K is not replaceable with either i7 8700K or i9 9900K for the 5K iMac 2017?
If not, what is the problem and why?

^^it has to do with bios settings, you can only swap cpu's with the same generation unless you wanna brick your mac

Then can the iMac take a 7900? Because I have one as well and I would like to enjoy more than just 4 cores
