I damaged the FFC (Cable) of my JBL Flip 3

Hi

I damaged the FFC of my JBL Flip 3 and now I would like to exchange it with a new cable but I am not sure which cable is the right one its a bit confusing for me. I did some research and found this:

Product Name: Flexible Flat Cable

Model Name: AWM 20624 80C 60V VW-1 (B type)

Pin Number: 13

Direction: Forward direction (what is the difference between back and forward direction?)

Heat Resistance: 80c (176f)

Length: 150mm / 5,91"

Total Size: 150mm x 7mm / 5,91" x 0,28"(L*B)

In case that is the right cable model can you recommend a website where I can order it to germany? Any advice and cautions before I dismantel the parts to exchange the cable?

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers Linda

Hey Linda,

Did you tear the cable near one of the connector panels of the flexicable?

In this case, you can try to CAREFULLY remove the insulation on that end of the cable with a scalpel or fine sandpaper. Then tin these free contacts at the lowest possible temperature of your soldering iron (max. 300 ~ 320 ° C) with very short contact to the cable!

Now the connection could work again without ordering a new flexi cable ...

If your flexi cable is damaged in the middle, you can try carefully(!) remove the insulation from both damaged ends. Then you can tin both ends. Then glue both ends with an overlap half the length of the insulation free ends. If the glue is hard, you can solder the newly created pads together. Again: With the lowest possible temperature of your soldering iron (max. 300 ~ 320 ° C) with very short contact to the cable!

Good luck

Hey George thx for the response. I dont have any experience with solder nor have I the tools for that. Yes the flexicable is ripped in the middle caused by my action because the flexible cable was blocking the battery and I didnt know at that time that this was a cable.

So I guess I will order the mentioned model despription of the cable.

Cheers

Hello Linda,

could you send a photo of the ripped cable?

Because your question:

"what is the difference between back and forward direction?"

If I'm not wrong:

• "forward" is, when the connection-pads are on the same side of the flexi-cable,

• "back" is, when the connection-pads are on different sides of the flexi-cable...

Best Regards

Georg
