Will an iMac boot if EFI is bad (missing or fried)?

changed the EFI chip (firmware lock) on my iMac and now it won’t boot. Symptom is LED1 on, LED2 flashing every 5 seconds. The PS seems to be ok, I can measure 12V getting to the logic board. Power button does nothing. Before I start looking for shorts, etc, wondering if the new chip is either bad or fried during installation.

No it won’t boot without its firmware load.

So I re-soldered the old chip (was working before) and getting same behavior. I found the datasheet for the EFI and checked voltage between VCC and Ground and am getting the right supplied voltage 3.3V. So the chip connected correctly just missing the actual firmware? would over-heating the chip destroy the storage but not the electrical components?

I think you really need a new logic board here.

I haven't played with the EFI chip in years. It sounds like your chip is damaged and/or has the wrong programing.
