“A” and “D” on keyboard not working after connect new keyboard

Hi there,

Water got on the trackpad and the keyboard.

Some keys do not work or show other keys that have been pressed, although this is not the case.

When a new replacement keyboard is connected, all keys work normally again - except for A and D! The trackpad works without problems with the defective original keyboard and also with the replacement keyboard.

Now the question is, is this a keyboard problem or a trackpad problem or even a motherboard problem?

The macbook works flawlessly except for the keyboard. There are no problems whatsoever with an externally connected keyboard.

I have a Macbook Air M1 late 2020 MGN63D/A bought in europe.

Please help.

Try an external keyboard, and clean slot that the replacement keyboard plugs into on the board. Clean with electrical contact cleaner. double check that the connection is solidly in. May be a little line to show you that it is fully plugged in.

The keyboard decoder is part of the trackpad, you’ll need to replace it MacBook Air 13 Zoll (Ende 2020) Trackpad tauschen

But why? The trackpad worked fine. Does a replacement solve the keyboard problem?

What makes the replacement trackpad different?

@frischeis - The firmware within it is setup for a different keyboard layout than yours.

Sorry for not understanding. But has the replacement trackpad not installed the same firmware as what is already installed? How do I tell a difference?

@frischeis Just not possible ;-{ The trackpads all look the same!

What happens is someone strips down a UK system and sells you the trackpad from it but you have a US keyboard as one possible example!

Heres the same issue with the 2019 model MacBook Air 13" Trackpad Kit - UK/EU

"Unfortunately, when replacing this part with a different nationality keyboard fitted, the keyboard will need to be re-mapped before it will function properly. This is a process that is tied into Apple's Global Service Exchange (GSX), so cannot be done by anyone without access to this service (generally only ASP can do this). Because of this, we recommend buying this as part of a Repair, meaning the machine to be booked in as a repair to have it fitted internally by TheBookYard.

This trackpad has come from either a UK or EU keyboard layout machine, so should be already mapped to this layout. If you need a different layout, and you have access to Apple's re-mapping tool, or know of a service provider in your area who is able to do this for you (bear in mind that most apple service providers will charge for this service), please let us know before you place the order and we will be happy to ship it separate to a repair."

Here you need a US trackpad for a US system (keyboard)

Okay, i understand at this point.

But i have german macbook („german trackpad“) and i order a german layout keyboard replacement. A and D keys not working. I dont have mixed up US or UK trackpad/keyboard.

That's why I don't understand...
