Securing metal shaft into metal housing

I've taken apart my Sonicare toothbrush to fix a loose connection and see that the straight metal shaft has completely dislodged from the metal housing piece. It can be reinserted, but is not secure, and thus slips out. How can I ensure a tight fit before reassembling? I'm not sure if the original was one piece and mine is simply broken, or if some sort of glue bond has been compromised. Thanks!

As far als I know it is secured with a triangle shaped piece of metal and a screw. Look at step 5 in this guide: Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Antriebsachse austauschen

The entire housing is held in by a screw. However, the metal rod is not attached to the housing unit. I’m already at step 7 on that guide.

Was only able to achieve a temporary fix; likely best to get a replacement part.

Screw tightening did nothing to resolve the prob, so I got some epoxy glue for metal and glued the tip in. Lasted a few weeks, but came apart again. I suppose you might get better results if you do a more thorough job gluing, or apply less pressure when brushing.

I did manage to fix again, but ultimately another problem occurred and the battery got fried. Turns out that breaking the seal led to some damage and water was able to enter the chassis when it was put back together. In the end, I had to buy another electric toothbrush. Do be careful when re-sealing the device!

I appreciate the update. I was going to try something similar, super glue or epoxy. But with all the vibrations I can see that fix failing in a short time. I wonder how the shaft was held in place in the first place? And it's a bummer that compared to all the "loose screw" issues, this one seems more rare and I can't find any other example cases. I appreciate you responding.

Thanks for the heads up about potential water damage!

My second Phillips sonicare brush this issue has occurred on for myself, just outside a year of use. Despite the fact that I took great lengths to care for this brush. Extremely disappointing end result for a product one would expect to be superior in quality. Fortunately purchasing from Costco meant an easy return, but I didn’t expect the problem to reoccur so I did not make the purchase at Costco the second time around. What a shame…
