The left joystick up direction is jittery and unresponsive

Within the past year, the left joystick on my switch lite console has starting becoming unresponsive, making it difficult to move forward in 3D games. I end up having to push the stick much harder than normal to get the input to register. Does anyone know exactly what the problem is? Is something dirty? Is there a problem with a board of some kind? Or do I just need to replace the joystick?
