Why does my fan rattle after about 30min of use?
After about 20-40 minutes being plugged in the computer begins to rattle and overheat. Can this be repaired?

Hi @jhansome
It may be a faulty fan e.g. worn bearing or simply covered in dust causing it to not operate properly.
Here's the service manual for the laptop.
Go to p.51 to view the pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove the fan.
You can then check if it needs to be cleaned i.e. dust build up etc or if it is faulty.
If faulty search online for Dell 15 5000 fan to find suppliers that suit you best.
Since you have to remove the heat sink, check the condition of the thermal paste that is covering the CPU under the heat sink. It may have dried out and will need refreshing. Dried out thermal paste can cause heating problems with the CPU. Here's the ifixit Wie trage ich Wärmeleitpaste am besten auf guide that may help.

Hey, Jess
Your Inspiron fan or heatsink is probably loose. You can secure the fan in the laptop, or just install a new heatsink altogether.

Yes it can be repaired by replacing the fan and its thermal paste to possibly stop the rattling sound and stop overheating, I also recommend to put your laptop in a flat surface to avoid it from overheating too!
I hope that helps! Let me know if you have more questions

I have inspiron 15 and you can tell that the chassis bends if you pick it up from one corner. The entire chassis bends. So why in the mother of esus christ do they use a heat sink with a heat pipe 4 inches away from anything that is screwed down? This is a design flaw. My laptop rattled, so I replaced the fan. In a month, it rattled more. So i bent the heat pipe to put pressure against the motherboard, and it rattles less. So i put the original fan in, and it rattles less.
THis wouldn't be a shttshow if the %#*@ engineers used their brains for two seconds, and realized that if you design an object that moves, maybe don't design it with shtt that gets permanent deformation in metal objects within the object, and they rattle like fck.
Its a good thing Dell doesn't design cars, or the *!&$!&$^ engine would jump out from under the hood, and take itself for a drive instead of the entire car.
