Can I add a second Fan?

Hello mates,

I have a Lenovo Yoga 710 15IKB with only one fan and there is additional dedicated Fan slot that is empty.

I just want to know, before I am ordering (The fan and the heat sink) and trying to install the secondary fan if someboday here was brave enough :) and installed the additional fan? Just to know if it is possible or just for tease.

Thank in advance

Ben

@rockykick if there is a slot and room for it, go for it. No reason to doubt yourself. There are really no negative effects also some may argue airflow obstruction etc. but that is very highly unlikely.

As you can see for the guide on the fan replacement, there are actually 2 in there.

I see that in the pictures you have Lenovo with two fans, but mine only has one. Are you showing a 720-15ikb and using it as an example? Or can the 710-15ikb also have two fans from factory (manufacturer)?

von

@edman62138 that is the guide for the 720-15ikb so it could be possible that it has a second fan. Yours is a 720-15ikb for sure? Post some pictures of it. Le's see what we can figure out.

@edman62138 I am sorry. Fat finger syndrome set in. The guide is for a 710 :-) not 720

@edman62138 the pictures and the guides are for the 710-15iKB. It does come with 2 fans. Now, just like for the OP, you may have a model that only has 1 fan but has an open fan slot which you could use. Of course, you will need a different heatsink as well. Check the Lenovo Yoga 710 15IKB Hardware Maintenance Manual on page 42

Sorry, had to post it as an answer since it otherwise would not open the attachment.

It's OK, I sincerely appreciate the help and going the extra mile. That means a lot to me. I'll check it out and try to replace my fan(s).

I know it doesn't have to do with the fans, but I thought I might ask anyways. Do you know if I can upgrade the RAM to 32GB DDR4 SO DiMM 2400Mhz. This website states that it can. They are also from England, so I recon the may have had a different 710.

There's another technique that let's you check how much RAM your system can let you install, even if the manufacturer states that the MAX RAM is such and such. But, since you've been incredibly awesome and helpful, I thought I might ask you for guidance.

@edman62138 per Lenovo it's supported up to 16GB however, it looks like it does use up to 32GB without any issues. Just always make sure that you have the latest BIOS updates. I'd go for it :-)

von

@oldturkey03 How do I make sure I have the latest BIOS, and if I don't, How do I update them to the latest version?

von

@edman62138 Lenovo is actually pretty good about publishing their stuff etc. Check on here https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloa... for the last BIOS for your computer. Looks reasonably old so I am sure you are up-to-date.
